Coming this Year - New Loan System for Borrowers
During 2025, Georgia Student Finance Authority (GSFA) is implementing a new online loan management/servicing system for all types of state loans. The new loan system includes a new secure, online portal, loans.gafutures.org, for all borrowers with an active state loan to access your state loan information and online payment option. All the loans will be transferred.
Timeframe: Loans will be transferred to the new system based on the type of loan and if the borrower has multiple types of state loans through 2025.In April-May
If you have a Scholarship for Engineering (SEE) and/or Minority Scholarship for Engineering Education (MSEE) loan but do not have any other type of state loan (like SAL or GA National Guard or other military), your loan will move to the new system in April or May.
June - July
We plan to migrate all the Military Service loans (GNG, UNG, and GMC).
November
We plan to migrate all the SALs (Student Access Loan).
Emails will be sent to you, the borrower, regarding your specific loans so you know when yours have transferred to the new system.
Please Be Aware: To migrate or transfer the loans to the new system will take 7 to 10 days. An email will be sent to you when your loan(s) are being transferred.
During this time and afterwards, the Pathways site will not be available for you to make payments or access your loan information.
Be sure your email address is up to date with our Loans Dept. Call us at 800-505-4732 or use Pathways now.
You will be emailed when your GSFA state loan(s) are scheduled to migrate and once it has migrated to the new system: https://loans.gafutures.org.After your loan(s) are transferred to the new system, you must create a new secure account in the new portal.
Below is a video with step-by-step info on how to create your secure account in loans.gafutures.org.

SAL Service Cancellation Option through Public Service- For students that received a SAL while attending a USG or eligible private college or university
- Work full time for one year in Georgia in "public service"
- The year SAL disbursed determines the time or amount that may be canceled by service:
- SAL disbursed on or after 7/1/2015
- 1 year of loan service cancelled for 1 year of qualified full-time public service employment
- SAL disbursed 7/1/2012 - 7/1/2014
- Service cancellation of $750 for 1 year of qualified full-time public service employment
- SAL disbursed on or after 7/1/2015
- Credit reporting begins at the start of your loan and continues with a monthly status update when your deferment ends (typically 6 months after you graduate or no longer enrolled) through the completion of loan repayment
- Monthly payment history is reported. While in deferment your payment history will report as In Deferment.
- Accounts without payments made for 60 days are reported to the credit bureau as a late payment. Additionally, if payment is not made at 90, 120, 150 and/or 180 days a report is sent to the credit bureau. Not making your payment on time can impact your credit history and score.
- Making a late payment does not remove the credit reporting of the fact the payment was not made on time.
- Making a payment or obtaining a deferment/forbearance for your loan after it has been reported to the credit reporting agencies will not remove the late payment report from your credit history.
- If you do not make regularly scheduled payments for a period of 270 days while in repayment, your loan will be in default
- Your default will be reported to all national credit reporting agencies which will damage your credit score and credit history
